“We put a lot of thought into our waste management here at Canva and are always looking for new and clever ways to be more sustainable and kind to the planet. eWater has been a great way to help reduce the amount of chemicals going down our drains and into the environment”.

One of Australia’s tech titans, Canva has revolutionized graphic design with their easy-to-use platform that aims to make design accessible to all.
Headquartered in Surry Hills, Sydney, Canva’s offices are a far cry from corporate stuffiness with full service amenities including a café that is alive with employees munching on freshly cooked food or conducting meetings over coffee.
Placing an emphasis on staff well-being, sustainability and culture, has also led the team to invest in eWater to help reduce their chemical use through the office.
Mark Hanover is the Head of Food and Beverage at Canva, and we caught up with him recently to hear how he is going with eWater -
Why did you choose eWater?
“I saw CommBank kitchen use it once and wondered what it was about, then Matt Stone came to visit our kitchen to check out what we were doing with our sustainability initiatives and suggested eWater was a great way to reduce chemical waste”.
How does it perform ?
“I spent many years using hot soap and chemicals in all kitchens I have worked in so to be honest I was a bit skeptical when we started - as I imagine many are. Once we decided to install it and were fully committed, I was impressed at how well it worked.
When the kitchen is fully cleaned with eWater it does have a very clean but neutral smell and that's nice. Also it's nice to have a non-chemical cleaner and sanitiser in spray bottles to use throughout the day around food as we prep”.
What does it mean to Canva to reduce the chemicals?
“It is very important at Canva to always try to make the right decisions when it comes to waste. We work hard in all other areas to know where our waste goes whether it's being composted or recycled, so with this opportunity to reduce the chemical waste, it's fantastic”.
How do you plan to expand sites?
“Well, we are a rapidly growing company but now due to COVID, it has slowed down. When we require more kitchens we will install eWater from the outset. We are also thinking of getting them installed in our Manila and Austin sites”.
