Shaun Presland Awarded at the Washoku World Challenge
Traditional Japanese food is collectively known as washoku, which literally means “food of Japan”. Respected as a practice and approach to food by chefs internationally washoku has been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Washoku World Challenge (WWC) is an annual contest for Japanese cooking hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
It is an event in which ten chefs of non-Japanese nationality who pass the initial screening are invited to the final round in Kyoto. The top three contestants are awarded the Gold, Silver, and Bronze prizes.
Under immense pressure, the participants are given two hours to make rice, aji no tsumire soup and a main dish.
We are happy to announce that eWater advocate and Japanese masterchef wunderkind Shaun Presland was awarded second place at the 2016 Washoku World Challenge.
We would like to congratulate Shaun and wish him the best for his new restaurant venture with the Lucas Group.
Keep up the brilliant work!
