“We love to brag about our eWater System.”
‘We love to brag about our eWater System and I am regularly getting in the way of the kitchen staff to give tours of the system. We are also now offering eWater to staff to begin educating and building more of a sustainable culture here at Streat and just as our environmental program began with eWater.’
That’s Sean Bluett, Sustainability coordinator at STREAT, the leading Melbourne based social enterprise helping provide disadvantaged youths a pathway to a sustainable livelihood.
Integrating eWater at STREAT
When Streat moved into to their new facility in Cromwell St Collingwood they had every reason to be excited. It was the realisation of a collective dream to have a flag site where young people could receive full life-skills support and train to become baristas, chefs and bakers.
As a leading social enterprise they have every reason to be proud of results of the work they do. Embedded in the Streat philosophy is to ensure they create goodness for people …. and the planet. It was a natural fit they they would do all they could to reduce impact, including by reducing the use of synthetic chemicals. They choose eWater as an alternative and they haven’t stopped bragging ever since.
‘We love to brag about our eWater system. I am regularly getting in the way of the kitchen staff to give tours of the system. They know the drill, it’s used for everything from sanitising our food preparation areas to mopping the floors.
We go on about how it’s used in our kitchen, bakery and roastery, and about how we’ve switched our commercial cleaners onto it. Then there’s the bit about how we encourage staff to take the cleaners home, as I myself do, and how it’s replaced all the cleaning products in my house’.
Since this initial installation, STREAT have gone onto ensure that all their retail outlets are using the solution. From their central production kitchen, they fill and prepare spray bottles for all sites and eWater tags a ride with their food to shopfronts around Melbourne.
Sean shares the journey -
We’re geographically diverse, with cafes from Collingwood to Docklands, but our team ensures that together with Streat’s coffee, catering and delicious sweet treats, that eWater reaches our sites each and every week. It was a no-brainer for me, and established the momentum behind our Planet Plan. This plan started as a few hours a week for myself and today is now built up being managed by a team of 4. And when everyone asks where it all began, we say eWater.’
At the shopfront the team are equally enthused. Most importantly eWater is effective for the team but what they really love is that it is safer and healthier for both staff and customers.
"We have been using eWater at STREAT cafes for over a year now, before getting eWater we had four cleaning products to do the same job as the eWater sanitizer and multipurpose cleaner. I love that the product is easy to use, reduces single-use plastic waste and is the most environmentally friendly product available. As a business, it is a no brainer to use eWater as it is cost-effective, sustainable, and creates a healthier working environment for both staff and customers”
